The Five Towns Sound men and women both won their first game of the season on Wednesday night against Webb Institute.
In the first game of the evening, the women's team defeated Webb by a score of 76-39. The team had four players score double-digits. Leading the team for the night was Denisha Allen with 18 points and 23 rebounds, good for a career-high. This was Allen's tenth career double-double. Senior Chloe Walton totaled 17 points to go along with seven assists and six steals, while Destiny Martinez contributed 12 points of her own. Newcomers Jada Roberts Duncan and Ashante Joseph proved that they will be great additions to the women's team. Roberts Duncan totaled 16 points while Joseph had an impressive stat-line of 9 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 7 steals. In just the first game of the season, this women's team showed that the returns and newcomers complement eachother on the court; in the victory, the team totaled 22 assists.
On the men's side, the team defeated Webb by a score of 94-47. Leading the team was returning Sophomore point guard, Kyree Sawyer. Sawyer totaled 35 points on the night, shooting an impressive 16-19 (84%) from the field. Sawyer also added six steals and five assists. Newcomer Lloyd Middlebrooks, a transfer from Middlesex County College, had a double-double with 18 points and 10 steals. In just eight minutes played, Quincy Simmons came off the bench to shoot 4-7 from behind the arc to contribute 12 points in the team's effort.
