Women Drop USCAA Contest to Pratt Institute
Despite an 18 point performance by Freshman Jada Roberts Duncan, the Women's Basketball team dropped a USCAA matchup against the Pratt Cannoneers by a score of 58-34.
The game resulted in a combined 112 rebounds as neither team shot great from the field. Five Towns shot 15-71 (21.1%) overall, while Pratt went 25-83 (30.1%). The Cannoneers were able to move the ball around the Sound's defense to find the open player, resulting in 19 assists.
Five Towns came out scoring to start the game and went on a 6-0 run, aided by seven missed Pratt shots and two turnovers within the first three minutes. After a layup by Emily Guerra ignited the scoring for Pratt, the Cannoneers went on a 9-2 scoring run to take the lead 9-8. Five Towns did not have a lead for the remainder of the game. Down by 11 points entering the 4th quarter, the Sound women went scoreless for the first 5:12 of the period. After a jump shot by Rasauna Melendez with 4:48 remaining, and a free-throw with 3:30 on the clock, the scoring was over for the Sound as they were outscored 16-3 in the last quarter.
Five Towns' Denisha Allen tallied 16 rebounds, while Ashante Joseph grabbed 12 rebounds of her own. Despite the effort in the paint, the presence of Pratt's Amissa Epperson was too much. Epperson totaled eight blocks, 18 rebounds, and 12 points. Pratt's scoring was led by Emily Guerra with 18 points.
The women return to action on Tuesday, December 4th in a home game against Suffolk Community College at 7:00 PM.
