In a game that saw 10 lead changes, the Suffolk County Community College Sharks came out on top of the Five Towns Sound 57-54. The game was close throughout its entirity, as the lead for both sides never reached more than eight points. A four point game at half time, it would come down to the final ten minutes. Going into the fourth quarter, Suffolk led 40-39. Entering the final minutes of the game, the Sound began to foul in an attempt to regain possession. Suffolk C.C. shot 4-6 from the free throw line with two minutes remaining in the game, while Five Towns went 1-4. Two made free throws by Suffolk's Ciara Henry-Jenkins to make the score 56-52 with 00:18 left on the clock proved to be enough to seal the win for the Sharks.
Rasauna Melendez led the scoring for the Sound with 23 points. Melendez also talled four assists and three steals. Denisha Allen continued to control the boards as she grabbed 21 rebounds to go along with seven points and five steals.
The women will play Vaughn Institute Thursday evening at 6:00 PM in the Five Towns Gym. The men's game will follow afterwards at 8:00 PM.
