Men's Basketball Falls to College of New Rochelle
The Five Towns College Men's Basketball lost to College of New Rochelle by a score of 114-78 Tuesday night. The loss moves the men to 4-3 overall, 3-2 in the USCAA.
The game got off to a slow start for the Sound, as they shot 3-14 in the first ten minutes of the game. With 12:52 on the clock, the Blue Angels went on a 20-2 scoring run to lead 36-11 with 8:07 remaining in the first half. At halftime, Five Towns trailed 57-32.
College of New Rochelle controlled the boards throughout the game, outrebounding Five Towns 54-31. Offensive rebounds came up big for the Blue Angels as 18 rebounds were good for 21 second-chance points. New Rochelle was able to capitalize on Five Towns mistakes and converted 21 turnovers into 32 points.
Shooting percentage played a large part in the resulting score. As a team, Five Towns College shot just 38.6% (27-70) while more shots fell for the College of New Rochelle. The Blue Angels shot an impressive 56.1% (46-82), good for their best field-goal percentage this season.
Kyree Sawyer continues to be the leading scorer for the Sound. Sawyer scored 21 points with 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Lloyd Middlebrooks scored 16 points in the effort, with Ismail Shabazz and Obasi Jackson each adding 14 points of their own.
The men look to bounce back when they take on ASA College this Thursday, December 13th at 7:00 PM in the Five Towns College Gym.
