FTC Women's Basketball is Going to the Dance
After an 11-5 season the FTC Women's Basketball program earned the 5th seed in the National Tournament to be held in Buffalo
The Five Towns College Women’s Basketball team has done it again by securing their spot in the National Tournament for the second consecutive year. After an impressive 11-5 season, the Sound have earned the No. 5 seed and will face the No. 4 seed Carlow University (12-12) in the first round on March 11th in Buffalo, NY. This remarkable achievement highlights the program’s continued growth and determination to compete at the highest level.
A Season to Remember
The Sound’s journey to the National Tournament was fueled by a combination of grit, teamwork, and standout performances. Under the leadership of Head Coach Corey Jaques, the team showcased their resilience throughout the season, overcoming challenges and delivering clutch performances when it mattered most. Their 11-5 record is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Key players like Layla Ford, Tylah Langley, and Raine Mears have been instrumental in the team’s success. Danayjha Moore, the team’s leading scorer, averaged 16.9 points per game this season, while Ihari Oromo dominated the boards with 9.66 rebounds per game. The team’s chemistry and unselfish play have been their hallmark, as evidenced by their 12.9 assists per game led by freshman Danica Robles and 14.25 steals per game led by Des Bishop's 3.81, which rank among the best in the conference. The bench is also a source of strength led by Shionna Nash, Sydney Mountain, and Melissa Dupon
Back-to-Back Appearances
This year’s qualification marks the second straight season that the Sound have earned a spot in the National Tournament, a milestone that speaks volumes about the program’s consistency and ambition. Last year, the team made a strong showing in their tournament debut, and they are determined to build on that experience this time around.
“Making it to the National Tournament two years in a row is a huge accomplishment for our program,” said Coach Jaques. “Our players have worked incredibly hard to get here, and we’re excited for the opportunity to compete against the best. We know Carlow University will be a tough opponent, but we’re ready for the challenge.”
The Sound will face Carlow University, the No. 4 seed, in the opening round. Carlow, with a 12-12 record, brings a balanced attack and a strong defensive presence. However, Five Towns College is confident in their ability to execute their game plan and advance to the next round.
