Five Towns College Falls Short Against Bryant & Stratton Buffalo in Hard-Fought Battle
Dix Hills, NY – The Five Towns College Sound showed determination and resilience but came up short in a 78-57 loss to the visiting Bryant & Stratton College (Buffalo) Bobcats on January 14. Despite the defeat, the Sound delivered standout individual performances and moments of promise that signal a bright future for the squad.
Strong Effort from Sound Leaders
Leading the charge for the Sound was Danayjha Moore, who poured in 16 points, including two clutch three-pointers. Moore’s fiery energy kept the Sound competitive in the first half and provided a spark for the home crowd.
Ihari Oromo was a force in the paint, securing a hard-earned double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Oromo’s physical presence on the boards helped the Sound battle against the Bobcats’ taller lineup, contributing to the team’s total of 46 rebounds.
Additionally, Raine Mears showcased her consistency from the free-throw line, going 5-for-5 en route to 12 points. Mears’s poise under pressure gave the Sound a much-needed scoring boost during critical stretches of the game.
Fighting Through Challenges
While the Sound showed flashes of brilliance, they struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 27.9% from the field and 16% from three-point range. Turnovers also proved costly, with Five Towns committing 27, which the Bobcats capitalized on to build their lead.
Despite these challenges, the Sound’s defense worked tirelessly to disrupt Bryant & Stratton’s offense. The team recorded 7 steals, led by Oromo’s 3 swipes, and held the Bobcats to 31.6% shooting from beyond the arc.
The game also saw moments of frustration on both sides, with technical fouls called on Five Towns’ Danayjha Moore and the team bench, adding an extra layer of intensity to the contest.
Unfortunately, the Sound was without standout Talaya Guirantes who would have positively impacted the home squad.
Key Moments
- In the second quarter, the Sound narrowed the Bobcats' lead to single digits with a flurry of quick baskets from Moore and Mears, igniting the home crowd.
- Tylah Langley and Shionna Nash provided valuable minutes off the bench, combining for 7 rebounds and adding energy to the Sound’s defensive effort.
- Despite a tough night offensively, the team demonstrated grit, particularly in the second half, out-rebounding Bryant & Stratton 13-12 in the fourth quarter.
Looking Ahead
While the result wasn’t what the Sound had hoped for, Coach Jaques remained optimistic:
“Our team battled hard tonight. We know what we need to work on, and we’ll use this as a learning experience to get better as a unit.”
As they return to practice with a focus on improving shooting efficiency and cutting down turnovers. With strong leaders like Moore and Oromo and a deep, talented roster, the team is poised to continue growing this season. The Sound will have an opportunity to bounce back in their next game as they travel to play conference rival Berkeley College this Thursday 1/16 @6 PM
